Meet The Makers

Amy Ford

Inspired by my childhood memories of growing up in the British countryside, I use clay to explore the subtle complexities of British nature. This is reflected in my practice as I produce forms through mould making, embellished with complex sprig designs. My work depicts an elevated perspective on nature, showing simple motifs based on British flora as ornate beauty. Through this work I explore personal memory and childhood, influenced by a nostalgic lens on the evocative traces of my formative years. This traversal between past and present opens a dialogue on reminiscence and forming conscious connections to our memories.

Born in Siberia and raised in England, I draw on my heritage and love for nature to create jewellery that reflects organic textures and forms. I explore the contrast between smooth and rough surfaces, using metal for its strength and tactility. My process involves wax sculpting , metal fabrication, drawing, photography, and collage to shape and refine ideas. Each piece is a personal response to nature—wearable art that invites touch, exploration, and connection.

My practice is informed by the precarious processes within ceramics, with reference to utilising the raw qualities of my medium. I am heavily inspired by the wheel and the gestural nature of clay through this I enjoy finding the contacts between surface and tactility in making. I mainly work with rich and flavourful clay bodies, predominantly terracotta and black stoneware, that are distinct from textural and vivid glazes. I am interested in varying the extremes of traditional ceramic boundaries, through high firing work and applying glaze in various states of viscosity to allow for unpredictability and spontaneity throughout my process.

Born in Maidstone, Kent, I have just completed my Ba in Jewellery and Silversmithing (Hons) at UCA Farnham. I create jewellery and sculpture in a range of materials while primarily being rooted in metals. My practice is fuelled by the familiar everyday surfaces that surround our lives, and through a re-presentation of our quotidian surroundings, I elevate the overlooked, re-framing the ordinary and prompting reflection on the beauty and significance of the everyday. My processes involve acid-etching, forging metal, and a variety of bench fabrication skills to bring together materials.

Aisha Airan

My fascination with glass work started as a young girl visiting Malta, where I’d watch demonstrations of people blowing functional ware. This experience sparked a deep interest that led me to explore different glass techniques, such as kiln casting and Pate de Verre. The body of work I’ve recently created centres around my heritage and explores Islamic patterns. By delving into geometry and arabesque styles, I’ve developed motifs and archway-inspired designs that reflect both tradition and personal expression. Glass has become a medium through which I connect with my roots, and I’m excited to share this evolving journey through my work.

I'm a ceramicist inspired by the everyday rituals of food and drink. Growing up in Maidstone, Kent, family meals were a daily tradition, moments of connection that continue to shape my work. Now based in Farnham, Surrey, I create playful, functional ceramics designed to become part of people’s lives. Working with black clay, I throw each piece on the wheel, drawn to the tactile bond between hand and material. My glazes are bold and expressive, making every item unique. Whether it’s a cup of tea or a shared meal, I love the idea of my work bringing people together, used, enjoyed, and cherished over time.

Jan Simpson

I’m a glass artist drawn to the quiet dialogue between light, colour, and form. Originally trained in heritage stained glass, I’ve spent over 25 years blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary techniques—creating work that is both rooted and exploratory. Raised in Hong Kong and New Zealand, now based on the south coast of England, my pieces often reflect a deep sense of place and personal story. Each one is a held moment—narrative, memory, and emotion rendered in glass. During my time at university, I’ve focused on expanding the expressive potential of heritage stained glass—developing casting and moulding techniques that enrich both its narrative depth and material presence. My work seeks to honour the integrity of this endangered craft while redefining its place in contemporary art and design—bridging centuries of tradition with modern innovation, and preserving rare skills through thoughtful evolution.
